A transducer is a device that converts energy from one form to another. Transducers are often employed at the boundaries of automation, measurement, and control systems, where electrical signals are converted to and from other physical quantities (energy, force, torque, light, motion, position, etc.).
A transducer receives sequences of high voltage electrical pulses called transmit pulses from the echo sounder. When the wave of sound bounces back, the transducer acts as a microphone. It receives the sound wave during the time between each transmit pulse and converts it back into electrical energy.
