GA-001-OFRK – Aviation Labs Oil Analysis Kit
Available now on the Airparts.aero Marketplace.
Overview
The Aviation Labs GA-001-OFRK is a complete, easy-to-use oil analysis kit, an essential tool for any proactive aircraft maintenance program. This kit provides all the necessary materials to take a clean sample of your engine's used lubricating oil and send it to our state-of-the-art laboratory. Our comprehensive analysis uses advanced spectrographic technology to provide a detailed "blood test" for your engine, identifying microscopic wear metals and contaminants. This data is then trended over time to provide an unparalleled insight into the internal health of your engine, allowing you to detect potential problems long before they become catastrophic, expensive failures.
Key Features
- Predictive Maintenance Tool: The primary function is to serve as a predictive failure analysis tool. By identifying rising levels of specific wear metals, the analysis can pinpoint which engine components are wearing abnormally, allowing for targeted, preventative maintenance.
- Spectrographic Analysis: Each sample undergoes Inductively Coupled Plasma (ICP) or a similar atomic emission spectroscopy process. The oil is vaporized at high temperature, and the specific light wavelengths emitted are analyzed to quantify the presence of up to 24 different elements in parts per million (ppm).
- Comprehensive Reporting: You receive a detailed report outlining the levels of all wear metals, contaminants, and additives. The report compares your engine's results to a database of thousands of similar models and highlights any abnormal trends or critical values in an easy-to-understand format.
- Easy-to-Use Kit: The kit provides a clean, sterile sample bottle, a data sheet to record engine information (time since overhaul, oil type, hours on oil), and a pre-addressed, leak-proof mailer for safe and simple shipment to our lab.

Applications
Regular oil analysis is a cornerstone of a modern, condition-based maintenance program:
- Routine Engine Health Monitoring: Taking a sample at every oil change allows for the creation of a wear trendline, which is the most powerful aspect of oil analysis.
- Pre-Purchase Inspection: Analyzing the oil of an aircraft you intend to purchase can provide invaluable insight into the true condition of its engine.
- Troubleshooting: Can help confirm or deny a suspected internal engine problem without requiring a costly teardown.
Why Choose Aviation Labs?
Your aircraft's engine is its most valuable and life-critical component. Simply changing the oil is not enough; you need to understand what the oil is telling you. The Aviation Labs oil analysis program provides you with the data to make informed decisions. Our detailed reports, trend analysis, and expert commentary can help you save thousands of dollars in maintenance costs and, most importantly, provide a critical layer of safety by identifying potential failures before they happen.

Spectrographic oil analysis is a powerful application of atomic physics. When the oil sample is introduced into a high-temperature plasma torch, it is vaporized, and the individual atoms of the elements within it are excited to higher energy states. As these atoms fall back to their stable state, they emit photons of light at very specific, characteristic wavelengths—a unique "fingerprint" for each element. For example, excited iron atoms emit light at a different color (wavelength) than excited aluminum atoms. The spectrometer separates these wavelengths, and a detector measures the intensity of the light at each specific wavelength. The intensity is directly proportional to the concentration of that element in the sample, allowing for a precise measurement in parts per million (ppm).
Note: For best results, take the oil sample immediately after engine shutdown while the oil is hot and contaminants are suspended. Ideally, the sample should be taken mid-stream during draining, not from the very beginning or end of the drain. Fill out the included information sheet completely and accurately, as this data is crucial for proper analysis and trending.
